Becoming Bobbi

By Country Girl

This was the dumbest idea Larry and Terry had dragged Bobby into yet. Bobby forced himself not to think of the moment, but to remember his duty to the Lynch twins. Even if they were idiots....

Lisha and Paige, Larry and Terry's respective girlfriends, had been acting weird. Every since their sorority slumber party last weekend, the girls had barely spoken to the Lynch twins. So the brilliant plan was to dress up like girls for the sorority party this weekend and see what they could find out. The boys figured, in a sorority that large, no one would notice a few extra “sisters.” And poor Bobby, what choice did he have? After all, when a frat brother was in trouble, the motto was "there is honor among thieves." So, Bobby found himself in drag on a Friday night and heading to a taboo girls’ only sorority party. He desperately hoped his brothers back home never found out about this.

The plan was to meet near the punch table after gaining access inside the party. They didn't want to be obvious, so they decided to come separately to the party. Almost immediately, Bobby spotted Larry. He had to stifle a snicker. Larry was so desperate to fit in and find out what had Lisha so upset, he had shaved his armpits, chest, and legs. Suddenly wishing he had a camera, Bobby casually leaned against a support post of the stairs, conveniently situated near the punch table. Terry materialized out of nowhere behind him.

“Hey, uh, Bob - , uh, Bobbi, the plan is to scope the place out and subtly attempt to find out what was discussed last weekend,” Terry whispered with an excellent falsetto in his ear. Bobby cringed. Neither of the twins seemed the least ill-at-ease about parading around as women. Actually, they seemed quite practiced and well-versed in this maneuver. What type of friends did he have?

In fact, Bobby noted as Terry sauntered away, they could even walk like women. Thoroughly disgusted (and more than a little wigged out), Bobby decided to throw in the towel. It was one thing to back his buddies up, but it was another to expect him to giggle and gossip all evening to discover why Lisha and Paige were angry. Forget it, Bobby decided. The guys needed to grow a pair, literally, and just come right out and ask the girls what was wrong.

With new resolve to escape this fiasco both quickly and unscathed, Bobby turned toward the kitchen, hoping to sneak out the back door. Before he could, however, a lone girl came from the other side of the stair supports and blocked his path. Bobby nervously gulped and attempted a girlish giggle. The brunette merely raised an eyebrow in challenge and stepped closer so she wouldn’t be overheard.

"Aren't you that guy in my anatomy class?" the girl whispered.

"No, my name's Nicole.” Bobby blushed as he squeaked out the response. “Nicole, uh, Mangan. I’m new to campus." His voice hadn’t been that high since sophomore year at Sleepyside High. After all of this time, he didn't have to attempt the falsetto; his nerves took him there naturally. He desperately hoped Dan never found out about this escapade. And he also hoped that Lauren--that was her name, he finally remembered--would leave him alone. He wasn’t so lucky.

"Yes, you are. Your brother's a doctor and you have all of his notes to study by, Bobby."

Bobby's head jerked up at this. This chick was good. Now what?

“I’m telling you, my name is Nicole. Maybe you’ve met my twin sister, Bobbiwith an I. Speaking of Bobbi, I need to go check on her.”

Bobby tried to make a break for it out the back door. In high heels however, he wasn’t nearly the running back he normally was. Within moments, he was spread eagle on the ground with a mouth full of dirt, unfortunately, still within sight of the house. Lauren was standing over him almost instantly. Bobby glanced up from his rather embarrassing position to see her raising a skeptical eyebrow at his rear. Crap. He could feel the material of the dress hiked up near his waist, and he knew by the look on Lauren’s face that his workout shorts were showing. Lauren said nothing as she knelt down in the grass beside him. Feeling defeated, Bobby decided to roll over and breathe air.

She continued to stare at him, so Bobby cracked her a weak smile.

“Nice workout shorts, Nicole.” She rolled her eyes as he attempted to pull the dress down.

Bobby cringed even worse and blushed a little more. Stupid Johnson genes. He’d never had sympathy for making fun of Trixie’s blush until now. He knew a new level of remorse.

“So how about leveling with me? Huh, Blondie?”

Bobby silently shook his head no; afraid to answer.

“I’m telling you, Nicole, either level with me, or I’ll sound the alarm and send in the troops. You want a war?”

Bobby couldn’t tell if she was teasing or not, but he didn’t want to try to call her bluff. At the moment, she reminded him of Trixie the time he broke the precious bracelet Jim had given her in the Secret Santa exchange one year. She had sworn revenge with rage in her eyes. And revenge she had served. Bobby’s thoughts still smarted over that incident.

“You’ve got five seconds, Nicole.” Lauren crossed her arms and lightly tapped her fingers to emphasize her point.

“Five, four, three…” Each number had increased in decibel, but ended abruptly as Bobby sat up behind her and slapped a hand over her mouth.

“What do you think you’re doing?” Her voice was muffled after he reached around to place both of his hands over her lips to silence her, but despite that, her was meaning clear.

“I’m keeping you from ratting me out. If you do, not only will I suffer from your sorority, but I’m going to also suffer from my frat brothers for blowing this. I was trying to bail when you stopped me earlier. So will you please quit with the threats? Help a guy out.” Bobby turned slightly and shot her a charming grin. He was surprised, though, when she stayed in his arms even after he’d removed his hands from her face.

“Let me get this straight,” she began. ”You were bailing on your brothers when you tried to leave just now?” Lauren narrowed her eyes, and Bobby suddenly got an uneasy feeling.

He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. He had to come clean, because this chick wasn’t buying any of it. “My friends Larry and Terry are dating two of your sorority sisters, Lisha and Paige.”

“Go on.”

“Well, after that sister slumber party last weekend, neither of the girls will speak to them. It was their love struck idea to dress in drag tonight and sniff out why.”

“Your sister’s a detective, right?” Lauren interrupted.

“Yeah.” Bobby cast a confused look in her direction, not sure what that had to do with it. “Anyway, they wanted to find out why the girls are so mad. I arrived here tonight expecting to just be back up. Then, they decided we all should split up and individually try to find out what’s up. I got disgusted and left. It’s bad enough to make a brother dress up in drag, but it’s even worse to expect him to socialize all evening for someone else’s girlfriend. I say they should grow a - a - well they need a backbone,” Bobby finished, unable to think of anything more tactful.

Lauren smirked a bit before looking thoughtful. “So, are your friends good at pretending to be girls?”

“Sickeningly,” Bobby answered, mildly agitated.

“And they’re both at the party already, right?” Lauren had a gleam in her eye.

“Yeah,” Bobby answered slowly, “Why?”

“Well, Bobby, it’s your lucky night. Me and the sisters owe those two one. So I’m going to ‘help a brother out’ right now. Go ahead back and clean up. The Lynch twins will never know you ditched them. They’re going to be too busy dodging blows to care.” As she finished, Lauren arched a brow, as if daring Bobby to challenge her.

“Sounds all right with me.” He grinned like the ornery six-year-old he used to be. He was willing to sell out his friends to save his hide.

“Good.” Lauren walked a few paces away before turning around to call out to Bobby.

“What?” Bobby asked, slightly worried she’d changed her mind about his freedom.

“I just thought I’d let you know, the next time you decide to cross dress, make sure you shave your legs. No girl would be caught dead in a skirt with gorilla legs.” She winked.

A slow smile filled Bobby’s face. Anatomy class may be more fun than he expected after all. And the guys thought he only took it for the pictures. Slightly teetering on high heels, Bobby walked the expanse of lawn to his dorm room, whistling a merry tune.

~~~~~~~~
Larry and Terry showed up to breakfast later that morning in complete humiliation. There were pictures posted everywhere advertising Larry, the star quarterback, and Terry, the amazing kicker, and their “new” method of training - in drag. A little blurb under the pictures gushed over how the guys were willing to put away their manly pride (which now no longer existed) in order to better themselves for the season. They sat down next to Bobby in quite a stir.
“Where were you last night, dude? We could’ve used some back up!” Terry growled.
Bobby angelically looked back at his best friends. “I was there, but you guys looked like you had it under control.”
“Dude! Bobster! They tackled us and held us down while they dyed our hair and painted our nails. They even waxed our eyebrows! I no longer feel like a man. I don’t think I can even return home like this. Mom and Dad will flip!” Larry finished up his tirade as the rest of the football team joined them.
“You, Lynch-men,” Spike, the senior defensive tackle, chortled. “Great support, guys. We could use some more like you. The other teams wouldn’t know what to do with you!” Spike smiled as he finished his sentence and placed little princess tiaras on both boys heads. Larry and Terry just scowled. Fortunately, the majority of the team was passing through to head to workouts. The remaining team members laughed and snickered their way to another table.
“I’m telling you, Bobby, we should put those girls on the team. They’re vicious. They’re worse than the twins back home,” Terry finished in disgust.
Bobby held back a grin and quickly downed the rest of his meal. “Girls are mean. You should’ve known that.”
“Well, where were you during our makeovers?” Larry questioned irritably. “What happened to one for all and all for one?”
“We aren’t in the Bob-Whites, remember?” Bobby laughed, avoiding the question. “Listen, fellas.” He held back a grin at their dire looks. “I have to head over to anatomy and feed the brain. I’ll see you at lunch.” He fairly ran from the cafeteria, hoping they wouldn’t discover his real dishonor at selling them out.
~~~~~~~~

Bobby slipped into his usual seat for class a bit early. He decided to review Brian’s notes since he was pretty sure there was a test today. He was intent on studying and didn’t notice the figure sitting a seat down from him until a folded note landed on his anatomy notes.

He raised his head to find Lauren intently staring back at him and glancing at the note. With a shrug, Bobby unfolded it.

Dear Bobby,

The next time you decide to become a girl (the Bobbi half of your personality) do us all a favor and don’t. I’d recommend sticking with being just Bobby (the supposedly masculine side of your split personality).

Otherwise, it might be permanent, like your friends.

But have no fear.

Your secret is safe with me.........

For now,

Lauren

Bobby wrinkled his nose at the spelling and glared at her. As class began, she just smiled back at him like a perpetual angel, but a slightly triumphant one. Bobby sighed knowing he was beat

For now......

Author’s notes: This story was slightly inspired by WendyM with her own tale of “Bobbi with an i” and I thank her for that. The idea just popped into my head after reading hers and she told me to fly with it. It is a submission for "WendyM's Virtual Trixie Camp Challenge 2009."

A major "THANK YOU" to my editor for this, Steph H. You're simply the best! Your input was invaluable for this story, especially for my "linebacker" comment. *g* There may be hope for me yet.

I'd also like to thank Vivian for hosting this story on her Bevy Tails page. She kindly offered a place for writers without a webpage to post their stories.

Now.....I guess I did leave a few questions remaining. I always hate that as a reader, but as the writer, it’s a lot of fun. *veg*

What were Lisha and Paige so angry with twins about? I’m can’t say for sure. It had something to do with something one of the sorority sisters told them about the Lynch twins and something they did. With the Lynch twins, the possibilities are endless. *whistling*

Why exactly were the twins so great at playing dress up? I can’t say for sure, but I think it has something to do with their sisters. Which ones and why are better questions. *angel*

Why does this ending have the Bobby-ness of the ornery little boy we all read about? Even if he’s at college and a slight adult, Bobby will always be the little imp. Now, what is he plotting? It was always said that revenge is sweet.....saccharine sweet. That’s all I’m saying. *duck*

If you want to know more, kidnap one of my muses for this story and torture them. They’ll talk quite easily, especially when offered some of Moms’ chocolate chip cookies.

Thankfully, Bobby and the Lynch twins do not belong to me. Sadly, neither do Trixie and Jim. They belong to the Trixie Belden series and Random House. I am making no profit from this. The other characters, Lisha, Paige, Lauren, and Spike, are mine. Oh, and Nicole and her twin sister Bobbi are up for debate. Either way, I'm still making no profit off of this work of fanfiction.
